HEEREWAARDEN – The first joint foal auction of Excellent Dressage Sales and Stal Brouwer Auctions had a particularly strong premiere on Saturday, August 22 in Heerewaarden. With a sales percentage of 87% and an average price of nearly €6,800, the organizers look back with great satisfaction. The highest price of the afternoon went to Watch Me H (Denver U.S. x De Niro), which sold for €28,000.
Excellent Dressage Sales and Stal Brouwer Auctions joined forces for the first time this year for two joint foal auctions in Heerewaarden. The first edition was anticipated with interest beforehand. Especially given the changed market conditions within the horse trade, it was exciting to see how the market would react to the new collaboration and the collection on offer.
That interest proved to be strong right from the start on Saturday. Throughout the entire auction, buyers from the Netherlands and abroad actively bid both on-site and online. The combination of a well-attended live auction and international online interest ensured lively trading throughout the afternoon.
Watch Me H tops the price list
The highest price was paid for Watch Me H (Denver U.S. x De Niro). After an active bidding war, the price rose to €28,000, placing the foal at the top of the price list for the first edition.
Several impressive amounts were also realized behind him. What-Ever S (Everglow Gold x Negro) was sold for €22,000, while Winston A (Royal Dynamic x Johnson) found a new owner for €16,000.
Interest was not limited to these three outliers. Wendelin E (Fürst Dior x Charmeur) and Woody Woodpecker (Proud James x Zonik) each fetched €12,000. Westside Dante TS (Dante Weltino x Grand Galaxy Win), Wish (O’Toto van de Wimphof x Bordeaux), and Winner of Donnerhall (Sir Donnerhall x Apache) also crossed the ten thousand euro mark and were each sold for €11,000.
Schellekens: ‘It was a bizarre afternoon’
Joep Schellekens of Excellent Dressage Sales looks back with great satisfaction on the premiere in Heerewaarden.
“It really was a bizarre afternoon,” Schellekens states. “We were realistic beforehand, because we all see that the market is different than in previous years. You know then that a good result is not a given. The top prices are wonderful, of course, but what we are most proud of is that so many breeders were actually able to sell their foals.”
Leo Brouwer: ‘A good market for our breeders’
Leo Brouwer of Stal Brouwer is also particularly satisfied with the result. For Stal Brouwer and stallion owner Joop van Uytert, creating a strong market for breeders was a key principle of the collaboration from the very beginning.
Brouwer: “We are incredibly happy and proud that we have been able to create a good market for our breeders in this way. Breeders invest a lot of time, knowledge, and money in their breeding throughout the year. It is then up to us to ensure that their foals reach the largest and strongest buying public possible.”
According to Brouwer, the pooling of the various networks made a significant contribution to the result.
Second edition on Sunday August 30
There isn’t much time to savor the moment.
