Successful First Edition of EDS – Prinsenstad Foal Auction

Top auction foal Our Totilas M to Dubai for €42,000

DELFT (EDS) – The first edition of the EDS – Prinsenstad Foal Auction was a great success. The 83 foals on the auction block yielded an average selling price of more than €7,400. Commanding the highest bid of the auction, Our Totilas M was purchased for €42,000 by a buyer from Dubai. Jumper foal buyers likewise found their way to the pleasant ambiance of Manege De Prinsenstad, the site of the well-attended auction. Among the jumper foals, Okidoki (s.Kitt SB) drew the highest winning bid: €16,000.

Amidst stands filled with bidders and interested parties, auctioneer Marthijs Brouwer placed 83 foals on the outdoor auction block on a beautiful summer afternoon. A flurry of bidding ensued, not only from those in the stands and around the auction ring but also from telephone bidders. Adding to the unique ambiance at Manege de Prinsenstad were the enjoyable stands on the Plaza and music by live DJ’s.

Our Totilas M
Bidding lamps were raised the most for the light-footed, correct and attractive Our Totilas M , bred by the Van Mook family of Alem. They chose the world champion Totilas to pair with their top mare Umathika M elite pref prest (Sandro Hit x Ferro), a decision which more than a year later yielded them €42,000. Our Totilas M’s buyer from Dubai will certainly enjoy this half-brother to the stallion Dundee M and the Grand Prix horses Adagio M, Black Shadow M and Cardon M.

Clamor
A clamor erupted when Otharin S and Othello A were auctioned one after the other for respectively €27,000 and €25,000.  As a result, Otharin S (Sir Donnerhall I x Apache, breeder:  Frans van Santvoort of Nuenen) emerged the highest-priced filly of the auction. Like her dam, who placed high as a foal in the National Mare Inspection, the beautiful bay filly convinced with her suppleness and carriage.

As for Othello A (Daily Diamond x Lord Leatherdale x Negro), he not only boasts a beautiful flashy black color but also convinces with his well-developed conformation and very powerful movement. Olivia S (For Romance I x Negro x Spielberg) was the second most expensive filly of the auction, finishing fourth in the sales ranking with a purchase price of €20,000. Bred by the Smit family, the elegant dark bay filly with excellent carriage is out of the same dam-line as the elite stallion Vitalis.

Jumper Foals
Jumper foals were also in high demand in Delft. Among them was Okidoki (Kitt SB x Stakkato, out of the line of horses including Burggraaf), who was transported from the faraway town of Haaksbergen. Featuring beautiful conformation and an excellent canter with outstanding balance, the bay colt yielded €16,000 for his breeder Wilfred Nijhof. Following with a sale price of €14,000 was the charming and resolute chestnut O Balou UB (Balou du Rouet x Chin Chin x Nimmerdor, out of the renowned Sina-line). Bred by Maarten Brands, O Balou UB’s dam Cerisinaa is also the dam of the stallion High Shutterfly.

Quality Sells Well
“This was very good, just perfect,” reflects Joop van Uytert on behalf of the EDS Organization. “You see that quality foals sell well and fetch good money. If the quality is a bit less, you see that reflected in the price. If you have foals that come in with presence and show themselves well, you make money. There was a large audience, a very good atmosphere, and I think around twenty foals were sold to clients in South Holland. The setup was new, and admission was free.  I think we created something nice. It was a perfect day.”

Connection
The Duijndam family can also look back on a successful day: “We’ve had many positive reactions to the facility and the organization of the breeders and the public who came to this first auction in large numbers. It was a first for South Holland! We’ve established a good connection between breeders throughout the Netherlands and buyers from South Holland.”
